Press Release

10th. JUNE 2004.

The VOGG held a protest outside the Stadium and opposite the Convent to coincide with the parade and garden party for the birthday of HM The Queen.

The group wishes to emphasise two things, firstly that the Jack Straw statement of 12th July regarding shared sovereignty of Gibraltar remains official UK Government policy despite its massive rejection in the Referendum. Secondly in the face of popular demand, and due, we are convinced, to 'diplomatic' concerns, Gibraltar has not seen a visit from HM the Queen since 1954.

However, in appreciation of the excellent work undertaken by the current Governor in arranging a visit by the Princess Royal in connection with the 300th anniversary celebrations, and the expectations that it has raised locally, the group has put aside its actions planned for the visit.
