The Gibraltar Women's Association was founded on the 15th
february 1966, by Mrs Mariola Summerfield and Mrs Angela Smith.
It was originally known as the Gibraltar Housewives Association,
and subsequently, in the early eighties it was changed to the
Gibraltar Women's Association keeping in with more modern times
that not all women were just housewives.
The objects of the association
- To be the voice of all women of all ages, status or creeds in
Gibraltar acting both as a pressure group and a watchdog to
protect the interests of all our family and society in general.
- To encourage women to take their place beside men in taking
responsibility for shaping our soceity, thus furthering the
equality of women.
- To oppose any discrimination against women in Gibraltar
- To provide an arena for exchange of ideas between women in
Gibraltar.
- To enrich the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves by
helping charitable organizations in various ways.
In pursuance of these objects the association will be a
non-political body.
